This past Saturday started out with below normal temps for Florida, 42 degrees with winds blowing at 20+ mph. Once the endurance drivers meeting was over, we started on our 6-hour race to see who could complete the most laps with the fewest hit gates and penalty winches. What started out as 7 drivers soon started to dwindle down. It was a battle between myself and one other driver. We traded the lead back and forth thru the first and most of the second lap, when he had a mechanical issue with his rig. As I was headed out on my third lap I checked the time, I had been going hard for 4 hours and 20 minutes. I knew finishing a third lap in the time was not going to be possible but I was determined to complete as many gates as possible with a fresh battery in the Axial Bomber and my calf muscles screaming at me I pushed on.
The course was set up with 4 sections on the 1:1 course at the back and another section on what used to be the short course at Krawl Zone. The start was at Krawl Zone, but we started on the 4 section on the 1:1 course. The revamped short course was pure brutality, loose dirt and sand combined with various sizes or rocks ranging from tennis ball size to basket ball size. The rock was more rip rap than anything. I ended up running the back four sections 3 times and the new section 2 times before time was up. I tracked my distance with my phone and had either walked, ran or stumble close to 18 miles to win. The rig didn't miss a beat the entire time and the ScaleFab land anchor and winch hook were put to the test. I used it to pull my up hills, over rocks and at one point it was used to pull me completely sideways when I was stuck between to concrete blocks.
