LARRY MORRIS, Class 2 3rd place winner! What do you have to say...

" I really enjoyed my first Tough Truck Challenge and meeting some of the new Team ScalerFab Drivers. I had some great runs thanks to Troy at Scalerfab.com for building such great bumpers and sliders to precise measurements. It's no secret that I run the comp style front bumper raised up a 1/2 inch. It really helps on the approach of obstacles. I am positive that my front bumper is why I came out with a great 3rd place finish." -Larry Morris

A Day to Remember, by Doug Maytum:

My first official crawler event as a team ScalerFab driver, was so looking forward to this for many reasons. Never ran a TTC (Tuff truck challenge) event before, Troy and Casey Loftus owners of ScalerFab were coming as well as a few of my teammates, I thought this would be so cool to hang with friends, get to know Troy and Casey better and make some new ones, plus promote a really good product. My new crawler build was ready (at least that's what I thought! (We'll get to that later) So TTC begins and I'm having a blast and what happens? When it's my turn to go? I get a case of the nerves! Yep, I'm shaking in my boots, don't know what happened but I couldn't concentrate at all and only managed to make it to the fifth gate. Great! I look like a nervous goofball on my first run in front of Troy and Casey. So I get in line for my second run and I'm thinking man get a hold of yourself you've done this a million times. Start my second run still nervous, handle the first tricky gate with no issues, so far so good, hands a little shaky then I flip, great!! Get it back on all 4 wheels and my servo comes unplugged no steering! Okay I'm thinking I'll just hide behind a tree now I'm so embarrassed. Third course comes, still nervous but I handle the first few gates no issues, I get to the bridge time was running out so I punch it and my right tire catches a wire and now my truck is hanging off the bridge, like some bad car crash you'd see on the news and yes there is a picture of it. The courses were tough, I spent so much time making sure my truck would handle well going up and down hills, I forgot about those rocks! Those bloody rocks! There were a lot of them, back to the drawing board. The end of the day comes and I'm licking my wounds mad at myself for being so nervous and I didn't do better, so we're all sitting around waiting for the prizes to be handed out everyone's having a good time laughing being silly, enjoying watching the kids win stuff and seeing their reactions, it was priceless to see, and it dawned on me just like Brian Parker said it's not how you finish but how you represent your sponsor. We had a great display, our trucks garnered a lot of attention, I was telling people about ScalerFab, and how important it was to be a good sport keep a smile on my face despite not performing well. At the end of the day, I won! Got to hang out with friends, seeing the kids have fun, watching my teammates win awards, it's all good!!!

Weekend Round up w/ Ant Petrone:

So this was my first ever TTC event, being a fan of the real 1:1 TTC events, I was super excited to put my scale truck to the test. Needless to say I had a blast and after a few silly mistakes on my part I took home a position o 12th out of 75 competitors. I got to meet some great people and made new friends but above all I learned a few things. So after a lot of reflection the past day or so here is what I feel I learned and took away from this event.

First FSTR can throw a great event and I look forward to future events. Second standing in the hot sun for hours on end without a chair is brutal, so lesson learned, bring a chair next time. While red clay is a total blast to drive on it is however not a total blast to clean off later, lesson learned, my rims will most likely never be shiny again. Having a winch is great especially when paired with a well-built front bumper from Scalerfab, lesson learned, don’t forget you have it and make sure you actually use the damn thing. A large mah 2s battery is great for long trail runs but not a TTC, lesson learned, if you have a 3s use it for this event the extra wheel speed is a must for this event. Being at an event for 12 hours and only getting to drive for around 20 minutes is brutal, lesson learned, I can’t wait to do it again next year.

So with lessons learned and my truck still in one piece I will say that I look forward to next year and doing it all over again with friends.

Next up, Mike Rowe:

I had the opportunity to go compete in the RRW TTC King of Florida March 5th. First off, I'd like to thank the RRW crew and the F.S.T.R. guys/girls for putting on an incredible event. It's my first time running my rigs in Florida and they welcomed myself and many others with open arms. The sponsors went above and beyond to supply alot of great prizes to give out. I was able to meet alot of people I've only talked with over Facebook and the rc forums. One thing I always love about scale events is the family atmosphere. We all help eachother when another needs a hand, tips or parts. Seeing my fellow ScalerFab family and Supershafty family provided alot of smiles and plenty of laughter. I showed up with my recently completed C3 Willys tuber which was untested and still pulled out a sixth place finish. But ultimately I could finish dead last and still walk away just as happy. It's about the people, the memories and friendships that are built and continued because of this great hobby/lifestyle. Thank you again to all who were involved in making this event what it was.
