Bolted vs. Built

Bolted not built? I personally get a lot of guff for bolt-on, prefabricated parts. I tend to use after market parts versus building my own. There are multiple reasons why I choose to build this way. I have never written a blog, but I do talk alot with other people and this subject in particular. A little background on me. My dad owns and operates a 4x4 shop. He is a one man show and is widely known as the go-to flat fender jeep guy. He fabs alot of high end parts so I have access to lots of high end equipment mills, lathes, welders, pipe bender, plasma, etc. I have always been impatient and this has not faired well in my attempts to fabricate my own ideas. I also work 45+hrs a week, so time is a crunch when you add the fact that I golf, 1:1 wheel, ride motorcycle, and have an amazing wife and two childern. So my reality is I'm short time and money just like most every one I know so here is my response.

BOLTED, NOT BUILT.

Pre-fabbed parts are built in consistent environments with quality control so you don't waste time and money test fitting your ideas. The products are designed to give best fit so if you change rigs they can easily be swapped to another car saving time and money from buying more material and taking time to make another one. The testing is also done, you know they will do the purpose they were built for. By being built in quantity, the manufacturer is able to save on materials and time. I have found you multiply hourly wage by design and build-time. The average home fab costs way more than buying.

In the end, for me, buying a quality pre-made part saves me time, money, and frustration. I like knowing the parts I receive are quality, going to work as intended, and warranteed if something isn't right. I understand others will not agree but I will be out playing while they are sitting in their garage spending hours trying to fab up a product as quality-built as that ScalerFab product I just bolted on my rig!www.scalerfab.com
