This past weekend I hosted our first ever G6 styled event here at SFSC (South Florida Scale Crawlers) located inside Markham Park.
While the event was supposed to be a “Fun in the Sun Run”, sadly the actual sun itself never made an appearance. In the end it probably worked out for the best as we had a nice cool rain free overcast day that lasted the whole event.
The event was a success drawing in somewhere around 75 different competitors for the day and a slew of spectators. People of all of ages showed up for the event, some driving down from hours away and from all corners of the state.
The competition had a total of 112 gates for competitors to navigate through and a large emphasis was placed on scale realism for the event. I placed numerous scale items around the course including scale banners, a scale picnic table, scale grill, and there was even a scale cabin complete with a scale campfire and benches!
The competition offered drivers a chance to help their fellow trail goers out and in doing so they would get a bonus for lending the hand. It was great to see everyone helping each other through the course, people even busted out their scale sand rails to get some of the more detailed 1.55 tire equipped trucks over the terrain. The course also offered a few tough bonus sections for drivers to put their skills to the test and ultimately separate the boys from the men as the saying goes. Not to let all of my hardwork and a nice day go waste I was able to grab my rig and get a nice run through of the course before the day was over. That morning I put my new Scalerfab bumper on and couldn’t wait to get it scratched up. As I expected the bumper did great, never got in my way gave me plenty of clearance, and gave me the perfect spot to put my tow rope to and pull fellow drivers over.
Great weather, great company, and of course the free food, made for a truly fun experience for everyone who attended. This is definitely an event I look forward to making into an annual tradition for many years to come!
