Hey Friends,
This will be my first Blog to post on ScalerFab web page, so please bare with me. I don’t have a comp to talk about right now, so I will tell you a little about myself and my trails!
I am 57 years old and work for Napa Auto Parts which I have been with for a total of about 15 years. I am an RC addict from Fairview, NC. I started messing with them in the early 80’s. My first good one was a Clodbuster! I later sold it and bought a Bolink pan car for 1/10 scale nascar. I ran it for a couple years I guess then gave it to a beginner at a local track. I then got the Associated 10L narrow. I raced it at a super speedway in Fletcher then later a friend of mine built an indoor track in Canton. It was a scale size Martinsville. That became my home track.
I worked there on Saturdays, building cars, battery packs, etc. and ran the races on Saturday night, except when I was racing, of course. I ran in the pro-stock class, which would be like the sprint cup series. Proudly I was one of three or four to beat. I won the track championship in 93. We also had an offroad track outside. Bought an Associated buggy and ran some out there.
In 94 things went south, my battery packs were getting old and I needed new ones, which I couldn’t afford at the time. I had to drop back to the super truck class so I could still run up front most of the time. Well, that just wasn’t good enough! My batteries were shot so I sold out and gave it up.
Towards the end of 2014, I started hearing about these rock crawlers so I started checking them out online and youtube. Needless to say, it gave me the fever again had to get one of those. I went to HobbyTown and put a honcho, battery, and charger on layaway. 2 weeks later I got it! Couldn’t wait any longer; been hooked ever since... and so Fairview Scale Trails in Fairview, NC began. I had to have some trails to run on , so I got my best friend hooked and he and his brother both bought rigs and we went to work.
I started on the trails in Jan. 2015 and they have grown ever since. I have about 15 drivers in the area that come out on the weekends to crawl, usually about 8 or 10 at a time. They have become great friends as has everyone I have met over the last year. I have competed in several comps over the last year and done very well so far. I'm looking forward to this year with the ScalerFab sponsorship.
I held my first comp last Oct. at Asheville Stone and Grading, it was a G6 style event and was a huge success with 51 drivers, the next one is May 14th this year. It will be a G6style and another one in Sept. it will be a timed team challenge and U4 event, looking for big crowds at both !
Back to my rigs. I still have and run the Honcho, although there is not much on it that is stock anymor! I also have 2 Wraiths, both mildly modified. Of course, the SCX and one of Wraith’s is equipped with ScalerFab Armor. Still got to get some for the other Wraith. That one is usually driven by my grandson. He likes telling people he drives for me- kinda cool.
Well this has turned out a lot longer than I planned so think I’ll just say Thank You to ScalerFab and all of ya'll out there in the RC crawler world for being great friends and competitors.
