On February 27th ScaleRockCrawlers.com held their second comp of the season at Percy Priest Dam located in Middle Tennessee. We got lucky once again as the weather was mid 50’s and sunny, a perfect day for some comp crawling. I arrived early to assist other members with the setup and tech portion of the day. With people getting a hang of the new rules and such tech went fairly smooth with ten rigs entered for Class 2 and eight rigs for Class 1.
Class 2 hit the course first and there were some tricky sections right off the start. There was one section by the water’s edge that was a challenge for any driver to navigate. The course was a bit shorter than what the club normally builds so the decision was made to drive the course back to the start line and then back to the finish again which resulted in about a two and half hour course. My ScalerFab equipped rig performed well and It was a tight finish among the Top 5. I ended up tied for 2nd place and the tie breaker went against me so I received 3rd place points towards the year long championship which is what matters most at the end of the day. There was an issue about midway through the event where some children decided that the gates looked better floating in the water and not on the rocks. We were able to retrieve most of them and get the course back to where it was for the most part.
After lunch it was time for the tiny tire class or Class 1. It’s amazing how much difference a 4.19 tire or smaller will make when it comes to a course. While the Class 2 rigs were able to navigate the course without many issues, the course was a lot more challenging for Class 1. There was more than one rig that took a bad tumble and ended up in a bad position causing drivers to think carefully about their next move. In the end my Trail Finder 2 worked excellent all day and I ended up tied for 1st place. A couple of silly mistakes on my part cost me the over all win. And once again the finish went to a tie breaker for championship points and it went the other way and I ended up in 2nd place.
Overall it was a fun day with great friends and tiny trucks! The month of March will be a busy one as I prepare for the Endurance 10hr G6 in Arkansas and Round 3 of the Monkey Series. Stay tuned for updates from those events.
