Pre-Comp Double-Check

With spring coming up and comp’s getting into full swing, I thought a little pre-comp write up would be in order. There is absolutely nothing worse then waiting weeks for your upcoming event only to get out there and lose a bolt, or break something that was preventable. Before I go out there is a few troublesome spots that I always like to check on and make sure are in good working order. To do your check up you will need your standard set of drivers, some wd-40, blue lock tight and some lithium grease.

First I like to pull all the tires off and make sure both the lockouts, and chubs are tightened down to the axle tube, if you aren’t running alloy axles then it is wise to put a small drop of superglue on the screw to hold it into the tube because more often then not they tend to strip out and not want to tighten down properly. While you are in that general area it would be a good idea to put a drop of the blue lock tight on the 4 machine screws that hold the knuckles to the chubs, the steering arms, and tighten your servo plate and horn down as well.

Next you can spray a little wd-40 in your axle shafts and on your drivelines to prevent any rust, and make they cycle and rotate smoothly. While you have your car flipped over go ahead and make sure your gear mesh between your spur gear is properly aligned so you don’t strip a spur gear out. Once all that is done I like to double check that my winch is spooled freely and can function without binding and getting tangled up In the drum.

I highly recommend running the ScalerFab winch line, it is thinner but has a higher tensile strength enabling you to spool much more line. I like to run my winch line up over the cab and hook it behind the car so when you need it you don’t have to wait to unspool it all the way, it makes winching much faster, and everyone knows time matters at comp’s. Lastly, but most importantly make sure that all your ScalerFab stickers are properly aligned and ready to roll!
