Call To Crawl #1 Recap
This was the first of 6 similar events, with a prize at the end for the top-overall scores (across events), and it was a lot of fun! About 30 trucks showed up, and the run began at 11:30, with two hours allotted to finish and return; there were 35 gates and 10 bonus gates, with the added challenge of the gates not all being in line-of-sight of each other (and the bonus gates hidden everywhere).
Things started out well, then disaster struck. I got to gate 5 about 10 minutes in, and then went into some shallow water to go for a bonus gate, only for my tire to hit a log, over-turning a CVD, which bound-up and snapped the built-in C-hub off my terramod axles.
Luckily I live 10 minutes from the event location, so I drove home, improvised a repair with some 1.5mm screws and epoxy, and returned. Soon as I got back, however, my steering servo decided to die, so I had to make the trip back AGAIN, swap put for a spare, and drive back. By the time all of this occurred, there were about 15 minutes left of the original 2-hour allowed time. I managed to floor it through the rest of the course, skipping all of the other bonus gates and about 5 of the regular gates (didn’t have the time to look for them), and finished with about 30 seconds to spare. Talk about close timing!
Overall it was a lot of fun, although hopefully next time I’ll be able to do more driving and less repairs! I came in the top half of drivers in spite of everything, which I’m pretty happy with considering the circumstances.
