Event Recap - Howling at the Moon

Some members of the Tennessee Crew made the trip down to Belleview, Florida for the 2nd Howling at the Moon event put on at the RRW Krawlzone this past weekend for some fun with tiny trucks. My first trip to the Krawlzone was last October for the Recon G6 event and I really liked the place.

After arriving the first thing I noticed were the new additions to the layout at RRW. The staff put in some work over the winter and added a lot more rock to the layout. And I'll have to say this addition made for some very challenging sections. There were three courses behind the main store and one course setup at the 1:1 course out back with over 200 gates total. As I was navigating the courses, especially the new additions, I was glad I chose to use my 1.9 rig instead of my 1.55 rig because it was tough on the tiny tire class. It was also nice to see challenging sections that required the use of a winch for some.

It was a beautiful sunny day with temps in the mid 80's and the action kicked off roughly around 10am. If I had to guess I'd say there were somewhere between 75 to 100 people in attendance and most took to the three courses behind the main store so it took a while to navigate the courses. There were only three items to look for while on course, two stamps and a hole punch, and the second stamp was a elusive creature. I ended up running the back course on the 1:1 section twice before I found it and that was thanks to one of my friends that made the trip down with me.

At the end of the day I got the win in the 1.9 Explorer class and had a ton of fun. It's always nice hanging out with friends from different areas of the country that I've made during my time in the hobby and I look forward to the next road trip.
