Family Time RCs

A couple years ago I had a discussion with the wife unit regarding the eventual purchase of a pair of radio controlled short course trucks. As you might expect it I didn't manage to convince her that there was an immediate need for the RCs. Nor did I successfully express the full severity of the potential for brain damage that our son might suffer from if we did not provide him with the RC as an escape from video games. I was, however, successful in boring her with tales of laundry being done, and dishes never being dirty, and floors that appeared to sweep and mop themselves if this purchase were to transpire. Apparently when the wife unit throws her hands up above her head and loudly exclaims "FINE" in an outside voice while turning 180 degrees and walking out the door of the local hobby shop it means she is pleased with the story telling and the purchase can proceed without further explanation. At least that's how I took it. And so our RC journey began. I'm sure my lovely bride might have thought that these two RCs were the end of it, and they were for a couple of weeks. A good friend of mine started telling me about scale crawlers. Of course I immediately thought this was another perfect reason for the kid to stay outside, and so I began formulating a plan to purchase our first rock crawlers. Fast forward about 6 months and we were immersed in the scale crawler world and attending our first competition. I tried my best to build up our trucks the best I could being a novice and all. My extremely talented, and wonderful wife, provided only an occasional glare, or barely audible growl when I would announce another package would be arriving via brown Santa to augment, and therefore make the final addition to our RCs for the third time in as many days. After more discussion, we decided to make a weekend of the competition. I booked our camp site and got the camper ready. Not knowing what to expect we took off as a family to the 2015 RC4WD Scale Truck Challenge in Disney, Oklahoma. One of the "big" upgrades I made on both rigs was the addition of ScalerFab bumpers with nice big stingers. Man did they make the trucks look great. My adorable spouse even made the comment that she thought they were cool as I bolted them on and demanded she gaze upon the fit and finish, and how they made the toy trucks more complete in their respective awesomeness. At the competition I had the great opportunity to meet and visit with many people from all over the country. I soon discovered what the RC community was and what companies like ScalerFab actually did for that community aside from making such fine products. Those companies, no matter how small or large support our hobby and help make our RC world go round. Without them, our competitions wouldn't happen. So, with that competition done and the light of my life happy seeing our son and I outside actually using these trucks we decided to include RC competition in our schedule of camping trips. We don't get to go to many competitions during the school year but when we can we go. Tristen and I drive our toy trucks, Mama takes pictures. We take the RCs with us every time we go camping. It's just too easy to throw them in the camper then walk trails or around the camp area together. We've seen many different parts of our beautiful state through RCing and camping. We go to the different competitions or get togethers as a family. Without RCs we would probably wouldn't go to some of these places or meet the great people in the RC world. I get to spend time with our son without developing cramps in my thumbs or experiencing motion sickness in the comfort of my recliner. We get out and enjoy the fresh air and when we break our RC, and mom doesn't glower to much when I inform her that instead of simply replacing a part we should upgrade. People have told me that camping is the best way to raise a family. RC camping is even better. Just ask the most wonderful woman in my life, she would probably snarl in agreement. By the way honey I need to get some ScalerFab trail armor for my Komodo before Disney 2016. It will be the last upgrade I ever have to do.. this week.
