Rock Yard Challenge May 14, 2016 Recap
Wow, what a week. Started building the course for the 2nd annual Rock Yard Challenge on Saturday May 7th and continued on through late Friday the 13th. All ready to go! We opened up for sign ups at 7:30 Saturday morning and guess who was the first one, Team mate Larry Morris! He camped out in his truck on the Parkway!! Shortly after, the 72 other drivers started rolling in. We had 110 signed up so we waited an extra 45 minutes or so to get started in case there were any more. Finally a little before 11am we hit the dusty trail and I mean really dusty with a lot of wind, The drivers started the 100 gates in 4 groups at sections A, B, C, & D. That really helped to get everyone rolling. The last driver finished up around 4pm, then we got started with the Bounty Run. What a blast! We had about 12 drivers try they’re hand at it. It came down to a battle between Larry and Todd they just couldn’t stop. At the end Larry ended with the best time and took home the lute. Now time for some awards and door prizes. Diva class we had a tie for first place, so a roll of the dice was the decision and declared Jennifer Bebow the winner. ST class was easy, only had one driver, James Frashier was the winner. 1.9 class the winner was ScalerFab team driver Larry Morris. 2.2 class winner was Bobby Fowler. Congrats to all of you. All in all everything went smooth. The only real problem was my microphone wouldn’t work so I had to yell which I can’t do very well, so Christina Knopp came up and yelled for me. She don’t need a microphone. Thank you Christina ! Everyone went home with a good prize from one of our sponsors. One of the special prizes was a Gift Certificate for a complete armor package from ScalerFab, Jennifer Bebow took that home by finding one of the two dice hidden on the course. She and Donnie Bell rolled for the highest number for the win. We also had a Hotwheels truck hidden for a set of T-Rex axles and links from RC4WD that went to Donnie Bell but I think some dealing went on and Ivey Hall ended up with them. We all had a great time, the course proved to be very challenging but everyone enjoyed it. I do want to thank Team mates Brandon and Kimberly, Jeff, Scott and Charles for all the help. And a big thanks to Matt Dean owner of Asheville Stone and Grading for hosting the event.
