Event Recap:
Call to Crawl - Saturday, June 18th
Another month, and another Call to Crawl event in the 6-event series that is taking place near Ottawa. This one had a slightly smaller turnout than other events due to the heat - 35c or thereabouts and, as the event took place in an old quarry, pretty much no shade whatsoever. Even so, there were still 17-20 people at the event.
The event itself went well, despite the heat and lack of shade; the tiny rocks and sand made for an interesting departure from the usual type of terrain that is present around here (usually packed dirt and rocks). Everyone got through intact, with some winching and tow strap help needed intermittently. I broke my streak of not breaking anything by somehow losing a driveshaft through-pin, causing it to grenade into about 4 parts; someone had a spare though, and it held up throughout the rest of the day, despite heavy use of throttle due to the sand.
I’m definitely going to drop by the event location again at some point; either for a fun run or another competition; the entire area was great, with some nicely varied terrain and an infinite number of driving lines. If you’re near Ottawa or the surrounding area, it’s located near Arnprior, at 45.438442, -76.256031.
