Since my last blog entry a lot has changed for me. I've moved on to a new club and a new comp series. This past weekend was Round #2 of the Summer Shootout Series hosted by Tennessee Scale Crawlers. The event was held at Adventure Offroad Park aka AOP, if your ever in the area whether it be with a 1:1 rig, 4 wheeler, Razor or RC Crawler, do yourself a favor and go enjoy the place. AOP offers over 500 acres of all kinds of terrain and I'll bet you don't leave disappointed.
For this event, the area known as Riot Hill was utilized for the courses. This was a SORRCA based event using SORRCA rules for the most part. I'm still learning when it comes to building courses but I setup two courses for Class 2 that proved to be rather challenging, maybe a little too challenging in a couple spots but that's what makes comps fun not to mention improves your skills as a driver. My ScalerFab teammate Larry Morris made the journey from Alabama and handled tech duties and also assisted with scoring and timing.
Class 2 saw 12 drivers navigate through two courses, the day went longer than I'd planned mainly due to only running one course at a time but there didn't seem to be any complaints. There were lots of new people at the event, for many this was their first comp and everyone seemed to have fun and that's what the hobby is all about. Class 1 only had 3 drivers with only one course consisting of 15 gates due to the time of day but it was a fun, challenging course still.
When the scores were all added and subtracted, which takes a minute when using SORRCA rules, I came home with a 1st place in both classes so it was a good day. I got to see some great driving and had a blast competing against everyone. And I got to hang with my ScalerFab teammate, Larry Morris. I can't thank him enough for his help with the event and I owe him one!
